Welcome

Welcome to the latest edition of the BAG Update in 2023!

It has been another couple of busy weeks for BAG – be it across our international or domestic agendas – such as attendance of a Philippines economic briefing in London, UK stands with Ukraine / a DIT led Ukraine reconstruction event or delivery of a virtual Airports Procurement workshop to ONDA (Morocco’s Airport Authority), as well as participation at the latest Interchange Steering Group meeting and a range of Sustainable Aviation groups to represent the wider aviation infrastructure supply chain.

The Government has yesterday published the “2040 Zero Emissions Airport Target” Call for Evidence and we encourage members to respond to this consultation, to hear your perspective of how we can achieve this target while continuing to reap the benefits of the aviation industry. We are delighted to welcome the Department for Transport (DfT) at our March Members Day where you can hear more about this call for evidence and participate in a workshop to provide direct feedback. Please find the full document here.

February also kicked off the latest series of BAG Working Group meetings (Policy, Missions, Membership, Communications Business Intelligence etc), these groups are set up to work with the BAG Secretariat to plan and implement the course of action within a specific area of BAG activities. As ever, if you or a colleague are interested to participate in any of those, please reach out to the BAG Team.

The BAG Airport Consultants Group (ACG) and the BAG Equipment & Operations Suppliers Group (EOSG) are hosting their first joint meeting of the year on the 23 February 2022 in London followed by a networking lunch. The leads of both groups are delighted to be joined by guest speaker Alison Addy Head of External Engagement and Policy who will provide a Gatwick Airport Update and Outlook for 2023. Both Groups will also receive a presentation on Heathrow T2 Baggage from Rebecca Sarshar AECOM and Fiona O'Shea Costain Group PLC and a BAG Business Intelligence Update from the BAG Deputy Chair Matthew Butters. To participate in this meeting please register via the BAG website.

Yesterday we hosted a Virtual Get Together focusing on the new Talent portal for Aviation Infrastructure where we welcomed guest speaker Richard Smith Engagement Director – Aviation at TalentView Aviation. BAG has joined forces with Talentview Aviation (TVA) and the Aviation Skills Recruitment Platform (ASRP) to create the BAG Portal, which is a free service for our member companies to attract experienced and early careers talent into our industry. Both TVA and ASRP are funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom supporting ongoing growth and recovery of the Aviation Industry. In case you missed the webinar you can watch it on our website.

BAG is delighted to announce the first LIVE BAG Members Day in 2023 in central London themed around Airport Opportunities and Sustainability. We are looking forward to hearing about latest opportunities from BAG’s Strategic Partners, a partnership programme which has developed considerably in the last year and includes the major UK Airport clients providing mutually beneficial engagement that promotes collaboration and value. We will provide insight and follow up from our most recent collaborations with the Department for International Trade around international priority markets and opportunities associated with them. The event will also explore latest Government consultations through the Department for Transport and how BAG members can actively get involved and provide feedback. Sign up today to this free BAG Members Event on 2 March 2023 via the BAG website.

It is also your last opportunity to secure your space at PTE with BAG – if you have not already booked your space, please book as soon as possible  so we can include you on the BAG Stand!

Sponsor the BAG Stand at PTE 2023! *Last chance to book your stand!*

The British Aviation Group shall be returning to RAI, Amsterdam in March 2023, providing BAG members the opportunity to exhibit by sponsoring the BAG Stand at the increasingly popular Passenger Terminal Expo (PTE). Over the years the BAG stand at PTE has grown considerably, becoming one of the main networking hubs for the aviation industry to meet and do business. This is due to our BAG member companies sponsoring the stand and drawing in the interest and key players in the industry.
The show in 2022 saw over 10,000 visitors from over 130 countries attend and spans across 19,000 sqm of space - making this one of the biggest airport shows in the aviation event calendar.  The event attracts over 1,900 senior airport, airline, aviation authority, government and related business executives from all over the world.

The BAG Sponsorship stand package is one of the most affordable and effective ways to exhibit at this world class. The location for 2023 means companies will benefit from a very visible presence at the show due to our stand location.  The package is sold to the BAG members only, which will ensure our members receive the most exclusive service.

For £1,990, the BAG Sponsorship Stand Package includes:
  • Refreshments available to BAG sponsors and their guests during live show days
  • Company logo on sponsors wall
  • 1 box of company literature displayed on the shared literature racks of the BAG stand
  • Tables and chairs available for ad hoc meetings on the stand. You can book to use these for short meetings as part of the package either in advance or at the event (subject to availability). The meeting point facilities are shared with several other BAG PTE sponsors
  • A dedicated Event Manager who will manage and coordinate your presence both pre-event and whilst onsite at the event
  • A truly cost-effective way to promote your company with a strong brand presence

Please click here to view the overall event floor plan.  The BAG stand is located facing the snack bar, to the left of Hall 1. BAG Members Day & Networking Reception Airport Opportunities and Sustainability- 2 March 2023 *Register Now!*

On 2 March 2023, BAG will be holding our first LIVE BAG Members Day in 2023 at the Turner & Townsend Offices in central London starting with a Networking lunch from 12.00, followed by an afternoon event programme, and a subsequent Networking Reception. The event will be themed around Airport Opportunities and Sustainability. This Members Day will once again be run as an interactive workshop open to all member companies.

Client expectations around sustainability are escalating all the while as they strive towards their net zero and decarbonisation targets.   It is no longer an option for the supply chain to ignore this important challenge and we are delighted to welcome speakers from the client side, Government representatives as well as academia to discuss with us the various aspects of this key topic. We are looking forward to hearing about latest opportunities from one of BAG’s Strategic Partners, a partnership programme which has developed considerably in the last year and includes the major UK Airport clients providing mutually beneficial engagement that promotes collaboration and value. We will provide insight and follow up from our most recent collaborations with the Department for International Trade around international priority markets and opportunities associated with them. The event will also explore latest Government consultations through the Department for Transport and how BAG members can actively get involved and provide feedback.

The workshop will
  • Update members on BAG’s latest activities and explain how members can get engaged across BAG’s various activities and groups.
  • Hear from BAG’s Strategic Partner Gatwick Airport and understand their latest thinking and plans moving forwards and what this means for the airport infrastructure supply chain
  • Find out more about the most recent DIT Airport Sector Trade Missions to Saudi Arabia and India in February 2023 and understand more about related international airport opportunities
  • Learn about the new Government’s Call for evidence Zero Emissions Airport Operations by 2040, based on the proposal in the UK’s Jet Zero Strategy and how BAG members can engage and provide relevant input
  • Give members the opportunity to participate in facilitated group conversations around relevant themes.  Member feedback will be used to help the Board shape representative views, which will be shared with Government bodies to help them shape policy.
To attend the event, please register here.

BAG Virtual Get Together: Talent portal for Aviation Infrastructure- Brought to you by BAG- 7 February 2023 *Recording and Presentation Available Now!*

Yesterday, the British Aviation Group held the Virtual Get Together: Talent portal for Aviation Infrastructure facilitated by Jason Fowler Chair of BAG. We would like to thank our guest speaker Richard Smith Engagement Director – Aviation at TalentView Aviation for a fantastic and insightful session providing members with an overview of the portal, which is a free service for our member companies to attract experienced and early careers talent into our industry. Both TVA and ASRP are funded by the Department for Transport supporting ongoing growth and recovery of the Aviation Industry.

"The BAG portal represents a dedicated entry point for our members to recruit the talent they need now and for generations to come. One of the biggest benefits of the platform is that it allows employers to find candidates who share their passion for aviation and build relationships with them directly, helping them to find the right people for their teams. We look forward to work with the ASRP and Talentview Aviation team to support the growth of the industry and promote the many amazing opportunities within the aviation industry.”- Jason Fowler, Chair of BAG

BAG Business Intelligence Update

BAG’s Business Intelligence and Strategic Relationship Working Groups come together regularly to try and collect as much intelligence as they can to gather on what is happening in the market, both now and how things change as we the sector recovers and rebuilds.

This document focuses on two key topics:
- What’s happening at UK airports
- What’s happing in the International markets, particularly in the priority markets we set for this year in discussion with DIT. Based on what we learn should we be resetting those priorities or focussing on other opportunities
