Runway Innovations Limited has developed an innovative design of in-line runway system, which provides the same or greater capacity as the conventional approach of additional parallel runways.  The concept was originally developed by Captain Jack Lowe, the world's longest serving Concorde captain, former Chief Pilot and Flight Operations Director for British Airways and the first person since Sir Sefton Brancker in 1929 to have held the positions of both President of the RAes and the Master of GAPAN.  The detailed system design has been subsequently developed by a world class team led by Aecom, with safety analysis confirming the design is not only capable of fully complying with all international safety standards but is in many respects easier and safer to operate than the traditional alternative of multiple parallel runways.  The benefits of the in-line system include less land-take,  lower cost, more efficient operations with shorter taxiing distances, reduced risk of runway incursions and opportunities to reduce noise impacts.
