Welcome

Welcome to the latest edition of the BAG Update.

Whilst writing this we are in the final stages of preparation for our Autumn BAG Members Day which will be held tomorrow at Arup’s offices and will be themed around Skills, Future Flight and Integrated Transport. I am looking forward to seeing many of you there to connect and exchange views, take part in a series of interactive workshops and hear from an excellent speaker line up.

Last week BAG had the opportunity to participate in the inaugural session of the Jet Zero Council Zero Emissions Flight Infrastructure Sub-Group where we will be representing you, the wider aviation infrastructure supply chain.

Earlier this week, the BAG Strategy Execution Group (consisting of BAG Chair, Vice Chair and Deputies together with the BAG Secretariat) met to coordinate plans for the BAG Board’s Strategy Workshop which is traditionally held in early November. At this workshop all BAG Board members come together with a small number of representatives from BAG’s strategic partners to review our strategic objectives for the year ahead.

BAG also held a call with our Strategic Partner Heathrow to discuss the upcoming Heathrow Business Summit – Reconnecting our business community, scheduled for 15 November 2022, where BAG will be exhibiting. If you are interested in attending you can find out more on the summit website.

BAG recently held positive conversations with the organisers of Airport Show Dubai and we are pleased to announce we will be coordinating a UK Pavilion at the exhibition in May 2023. If you would like to exhibit with us please register your interest with the BAG Team.

Last week BAG was represented at the Portugal Air Summit together with DIT Portugal and making connections with our valued stakeholders in the region - with our Vice and Deputy Chair both  delivering key note speeches at the conference programme of the event.

As mentioned previously, the rescheduled Annual Dinner date has been announced and will be held as the BAG New Year Dinner on 18 January 2023 at the same venue, The Brewery, and we are looking forward to seeing you there – coming together as a community with a wide array of stakeholders, clients and Government representatives. All arrangements will remain the same and if you have already made a booking, this will automatically be carried over for the new date. If you have not booked your space yet, we still have spaces available, so you can reserve your table or seat here.

Finally I have written to all BAG members directly last week as it is already time to renew your membership with BAG for 2023. Over the course of the past year we have delivered the most extensive event programme in our history.  Having built on our strategy for 2022, I am pleased with the progress we have made in Diversity and Inclusion, Sustainability, Community and Industry Representation. I believe that we have raised BAG’s profile and, through an increased number of key industry relationships, increased the awareness of our members views across Westminster and the sector generally. The success of BAG is of course primarily down to the strength of the membership. I am hoping we can continue to build upon this to help secure the future of the sector and am looking forward to your renewal with BAG for 2023. The full renewal letter and details how to renew can be found here

It was announced at the meeting that Ashley Reeve will take over the role as Chair from November 2022 and therefore the group are in need of two Deputy Chairs to support Ashley for the next two years. BAG Annual Dinner *New Date Confirmed*

BAG New Year Dinner – Wednesday 18 January 2023
As you may be aware, we unfortunately had to take the difficult decision to postpone the BAG Annual Dinner scheduled for 14 September 2022 following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We are now delighted to announce that the rescheduled event will be held as the BAG New Year Dinner on 18 January 2023 at the Brewery in central London, and we are looking forward to seeing you there – coming together as a community with a wide array of stakeholders, clients and Government representatives.

For those of you who have already booked your tickets, all arrangements will remain the same and your booking will automatically be carried over for the new date. If you would like to attend the BAG New Year Dinner please book your tickets here! If you have any questions or queries please contact Claire Parsons.

BAG Members Day & Networking Reception Skills, Future Flight & Integrated Transport- 20 October 2022 *Book Now*

On 20 October 2022, BAG will be holding our Autumn LIVE BAG Members Day in central London starting with a Networking lunch from 12.00 followed by an afternoon event programme, and a subsequent Networking Reception. The event will be themed around Skills, Future Flight & Integrated Transport. This Members Day will once again be run as an interactive workshop open to all member companies.

We are pleased to announce the following guest speakers for the day:

  • Mark Aizlewood, Zero Emission Flight Lead Manager, Connected Places Catapult
  • Gary Cutts, Challenge Director – Future Flight, Innovate UK
  • Richard Smith, Engagement Director – Aviation, Talentview Aviation
  • Andrew Dowding, Founder Director, Interchange
  • Darren Caplan, Chief Executive, Railway Industry Association (RIA)

Client expectations around sustainability are escalating all the while as they strive towards their net zero and decarbonisation targets.   It is no longer an option for the supply chain to ignore this important challenge. We also understand that no sector can do this in isolation, so we will be discussing the wider integrated transport conversations we should be holding. The event will also explore how we can create a workforce ready to deliver the skills required for the future of aviation - as set out in the Government’s Flightpath to the Future strategy.

We do hope to welcome you at this BAG Members Day for an insightful and collaborative workshop!. To register for the event, please click here!

BAG Sustainable Technologies Deep Dive Workshop - Virtual - 2 November 2022 *Register Now*

In 2021, the British Aviation Group published our “Environment and Sustainability – World leading supply chain expertise” brochure which highlighted our vision that the aviation industry needed to embrace a new normal to achieve environmental, social, and economic sustainability, including actions that the aviation sector must immediately adopt for a clear and transparent path to achieving a sustainable aviation future.

In developing our understanding of member interests in this important topic, we are holding the first in a series of interactive workshops to explore the sustainability issues, challenges, barriers, opportunities relating to airport terminals, airside, and surface-level access. We will also discuss solutions, technologies, member capabilities, and innovations to address the challenges, and use these to identify any gaps there may be in our capabilities. This will provide BAG with a capability “map” of BAG expertise from which we can develop marketing artifacts that can be used on the BAG website, presentations, etc. to demonstrate the breadth and depth of capabilities of BAG members in addressing sustainability issues.

This document focuses on two key topics:
- What’s happening at UK airports
- What’s happing in the International markets, particularly in the priority markets we set for this year in discussion with DIT. Based on what we learn should we be resetting those priorities or focussing on other opportunities
