Welcome

On Monday the UK, the Commonwealth, and national leaders from around the world marked the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The day was a day of national mourning and a bank holiday; and the BAG offices were therefore closed on Monday, reopening on Tuesday, when we resumed our planned calendar of member events.

Following the sad news regarding the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II we consulted with members and stakeholders regarding our Annual Dinner which was due to be held last Wednesday 14 September. After careful consideration and conversations with members and stakeholders we felt the most appropriate and respectful course of action was to postpone the event. We are finalising our conversations with the venue who have allowed us to move to a new date with no penalty. We are currently looking at alternative date options which are most likely going to be in January 2023 and will update you as soon as possible on the new arrangements.

The BAG Board considered and felt it was appropriate for the BAG Board meeting to go ahead in a respectful way last week and Board members commenced the meeting with a minutes silence on behalf of all BAG members to honour the Queen. The full BAG Board meets on a quarterly basis in person (in addition to monthly Board calls and a wide range of other activities) and key themes discussed at the September session were BAG Finances and Membership as well as BAG Strategic Relationships and Strategic Partners. We also welcomed Kevin Craven, CEO of ADS Group, who provided an update on latest activities within ADS.

Following the Board Meeting, the BAG Annual Meeting was held – you can find the full BAG Annual Report 2021/22 covering all details of BAG’s activity over the past 12 months on our website.  At the BAG Annual Meeting the results of the BAG Board Elections 2022 were announced and I am delighted to confirm that the following five candidates have been elected for a three-year term to the BAG Board.
-             Andy Clarke, Costain
-             Jane Thompson, ICF
-             Jason Fowler, Gardiner & Theobald
-             Jonathan Adams, Laing O’Rourke
-             Tim Morrison, WSP
I also would like to take the opportunity to thank all candidates who put themselves forward to stand for BAG Board Elections!

This week Tuesday saw the joint meeting of BAG’s Airport Consultants and Equipment and Operations Suppliers Groups in central London. We were privileged to be joined by Paul Willis from Manchester Airports Group who provided an update on their latest activities and look forward. BAG’s Security Group also met on Tuesday and I would encourage all member companies to consider joining one of our Special Interest Groups which have been formed to represent joint interests within our sector.

BAG Business Intelligence Document  *Updated Highlights Version Released*

BAG’s Business Intelligence and Strategic Relationship Working Groups come together regularly to try and collect as much intelligence as they can to gather on what is happening in the market, both now and how things change as we the sector recovers and rebuilds.

This document focuses on two key topics:

- What’s happing in the International markets, particularly in the priority markets we set for this year in discussion with DIT. Based on what we learn should we be resetting those priorities or focussing on other opportunities
