Welcome

Welcome to the latest edition of the BAG Update in 2023!

This week commences with a milestone – the return of the first in person Airport Sector Mission after the pandemic; a group of 13 companies together with UK Government representative from DIT and DfT will be visiting India and travelling to New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Mumbai for a packed programme of stakeholder and client meetings. The full missions brochure can be found on the BAG website. This will be followed by another Airport Sector Mission next week – which will visit Saudi Arabia where once again an impressive programme is planned. Feedback sessions on both missions will be provided at our upcoming BAG Members Day on 2 March 2023.

Another key focus for this week are our Special Interest Group meetings – earlier today we hosted the BAG Security Group meeting which featured a range of member introductions, latest updates on the wider Security and Resilience Sector from ADS Group, as well as an update on inter airport europe.

The first meeting of 2023 of the BAG Next Gen Meeting is happening later today where the leads of the group are delighted to welcome guest speakers looking at Supply Market Management - what is it and why you should know about it, followed by a BAG Business Intelligence Update; the meeting will also include discussions on Future Plans for the BAG Next Gen group in 2023 followed by some networking. If you or any colleagues are interested to become part of the BAG Next Gen Group please connect with the BAG team for more info.

Tomorrow sees the joint BAG Airport Consultants Group (ACG) and the BAG Equipment & Operations Suppliers Group (EOSG) will be held followed by a networking lunch. The leads of both groups are delighted to be joined by guest speaker Alison Addy, Head of External Engagement and Policy, who will provide a Gatwick Airport Update and Outlook for 2023. Both Groups will also receive presentations on Heathrow T2 Baggage and a BAG Business Intelligence Update. Presentations can be found on the BAG website after the meeting.

May I express my thanks to Louise Urquhart as Chair and Kenny Paxton as Deputy Chair for leading BAG’s Scottish Region over the past years. As both their terms are coming to an end we are looking for a new leadership team to support the region for the next two years. If you are interested in either the Chair or Deputy position please get in touch with Hannah Sallabanks.

BAG remained present in the wider aviation sector debate by attending a range of Sustainable Aviation group meetings to represent the wider aviation infrastructure supply chain; as well as contributing to the Future Fight Industrialisation discussion and which role trade bodies can play.

The last remaining spaces for BAG’s popular Members Day next week (2 March 2023) are available on our website. BAG is delighted to host the first LIVE BAG Members Day in 2023 in central London themed around Airport Opportunities and Sustainability. We are looking forward to hearing about latest opportunities from BAG’s Strategic Partners, a partnership programme which has developed considerably in the last year and includes the major UK Airport clients providing mutually beneficial engagement that promotes collaboration and value. We will provide insight and follow up from our most recent collaborations with the Department for International Trade around international priority markets and opportunities associated with them. The event will also explore latest Government consultations through the Department for Transport and how BAG members can actively get involved and provide feedback.

We are looking forward to an exciting and busy couple of months ahead and welcoming you to one of our events or meetings soon.

If you would like to get in touch or have any further feedback please get in contact – chair@britishaviationgroup.co.uk

International Women’s Day #EmbraceEquity – BAG Member Spotlights series – Take part!

At BAG we are on a Diversity & Inclusion journey, and we recognise we need to do more to educate ourselves and our member organisations to understand more about the people who work within our network and the communities in which we represent.

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity. Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness about discrimination. Take action to drive gender parity. IWD belongs to everyone, everywhere. Inclusion means all IWD action is valid.

We believe personal stories and understanding lived experiences will help us all have an appreciation for the brilliance everyone's uniqueness brings and also help us all see some of the barriers faced within our workplaces and society.  By actively educating ourselves we can all contribute to being the change needed, ensuring everyone, everyday feels included.

In March we celebrate International Women’s Day, and we are seeking volunteers within our member companies to spotlight as part of an awareness campaign. We would love to hear from you (your colleagues) if you are happy to share some insights to your career and personal story. Our vision is that the campaign will feature real people and be used on our social media platforms to highlight the opportunities the aviation industry offers to everyone.  We are seeking individuals at all levels from all backgrounds, the stories will be shared in written format (no videos) during March.

If you are interested in taking part please send the following to Hannah Sallabanks as soon as possible!
  • Name, title, organisation
  • Profile picture

BAG Members Day & Networking Reception Airport Opportunities and Sustainability- 2 March 2023

On 2 March 2023, BAG will be holding our first LIVE BAG Members Day in 2023 at the Turner & Townsend Offices in central London starting with a Networking lunch from 12.00, followed by an afternoon event programme, and a subsequent Networking Reception. The event will be themed around Airport Opportunities and Sustainability. This Members Day will once again be run as an interactive workshop open to all member companies.

Client expectations around sustainability are escalating all the while as they strive towards their net zero and decarbonisation targets.   It is no longer an option for the supply chain to ignore this important challenge and we are delighted to welcome speakers from the client side, Government representatives as well as academia to discuss with us the various aspects of this key topic. We are looking forward to hearing about latest opportunities from one of BAG’s Strategic Partners, a partnership programme which has developed considerably in the last year and includes the major UK Airport clients providing mutually beneficial engagement that promotes collaboration and value. We will provide insight and follow up from our most recent collaborations with the Department for International Trade around international priority markets and opportunities associated with them. The event will also explore latest Government consultations through the Department for Transport and how BAG members can actively get involved and provide feedback.

The workshop will
  • Update members on BAG’s latest activities and explain how members can get engaged across BAG’s various activities and groups.
  • Hear from BAG’s Strategic Partner Gatwick Airport and understand their latest thinking and plans moving forwards and what this means for the airport infrastructure supply chain
  • Find out more about the most recent DIT Airport Sector Trade Missions to Saudi Arabia and India in February 2023 and understand more about related international airport opportunities
  • Learn about the new Government’s Call for evidence Zero Emissions Airport Operations by 2040, based on the proposal in the UK’s Jet Zero Strategy and how BAG members can engage and provide relevant input
  • Give members the opportunity to participate in facilitated group conversations around relevant themes.  Member feedback will be used to help the Board shape representative views, which will be shared with Government bodies to help them shape policy.
To attend the event, please email Hannah Sallabanks.

BAG Business Intelligence Update

BAG’s Business Intelligence and Strategic Relationship Working Groups come together regularly to try and collect as much intelligence as they can to gather on what is happening in the market, both now and how things change as we the sector recovers and rebuilds.

This document focuses on two key topics:
- What’s happening at UK airports
- What’s happing in the International markets, particularly in the priority markets we set for this year in discussion with DIT. Based on what we learn should we be resetting those priorities or focussing on other opportunities

You can find the documents here.
