On 30 March 2023 the Government has published its Powering up Britain document, which sets out the Government’s approach to net zero and energy security, laying out the priorities of the recently established DESNZ.

Two other complementary documents have been published alongside this:

The central policy document published today, ‘Power Up Britain’, provides an overview of the UK government's approach to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The document features a section on aviation decarbonisation, starting on p68.

This section discusses the need to reduce emissions from the sector and the potential for sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) to play a role in achieving this. It also discusses the development of electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft and the need for investment in infrastructure and innovation to support the transition to zero-emission aviation. Overall, the document emphasizes the importance of collaboration between government, industry, and academia in driving forward progress towards net-zero aviation.
