Low-carbon jet fuel, crucial to cutting emissions in air travel over the next decade, is struggling to lift off. 

Aviation produces more than 2% of global energy-related carbon-dioxide emissions, according to the International Energy Agency. By 2050, the sector’s emissions are on track to double from 2019 levels as more of the world’s population takes to the skies, according to the International Council on Clean Transportation, a nonprofit group providing research to environmental regulators. It is one of the hardest industries to decarbonize as flying airplanes requires very energy-dense fuels to travel long distances.
