The northern Icelandic gateway has received a complete makeover that will enhance the experience for international travellers

In late February 2024, Northern Iceland's Akureyri International Airport completed the first phase of its expansion. According to the local tourist guide Visit Northern Iceland, the enhancement includes a new terminal with more room and a more extensive duty-free shop, increasing passenger satisfaction. Pilots and ramp personnel will also enjoy improvements with an improved apron.

According to CAPA, the airport signed an ISK810.5 million ($5.9 million) agreement with local construction company, Hyrna, to expand a 1,100 sqm terminal. The project has three phases: First, the extension; the next phase will see a new check-in area; and finally, the final phase will see improved border forces and customs facilities.
