On Friday 13 January, the final report of the Independent Review of Net Zero has been published as an independent review of the government’s approach to delivering its net zero target, to ensure that it is pro-business and pro-growth. 

This review was commissioned by the BEIS Secretary of State to ensure that delivering the net zero target does not place undue burdens on businesses or consumers. In terms of aviation it cites the need for further action across a number of sectors and highlights the report by the CCC, which “shows risks across most sectors – but particularly agriculture, aviation, waste, and buildings decarbonisation.” Helpfully the report calls for action on SAF and cites how low carbon hydrogen could be used to decarbonise sectors such as aviation.
