The current terminal has capacity for just 5 million passengers a year, though Eindhoven Airport anticipates a return to pre-pandemic levels.

Plans for the expansion came about from a predicted rise-in post-pandemic holidaymakers traveling through the airport. Situated about an hour from most Dutch cities, Eindhoven is frequently used by low-cost carriers including Transavia, Ryanair, Wizz Air, and TUI, providing an affordable gateway in and out of the Netherlands and Northern Belgium.

The current terminal has around 26,100 sqm of floor space, the expansion would add approximately 10,000 more, seeing the addition of extra gates, restaurants, and shops. The final design will be unveiled in January 2023, with work commencing later that year. Up in the Sky shares that the expected completion date is 2025.
