New Civil Engineer - Rob Hakimian
HS2 Ltd has submitted new plans for its automated people mover (APM) between the HS2 interchange station and Birmingham Airport to Solihull Council.
The APM will stop at the HS2 interchange station, the NEC, Birmingham International Station and Birmingham Airport. It will complete the 2.3km route in six minutes, with services every three minutes, meaning it will be able to carry up to 2,100 passengers per hour. It will run on a viaduct over the M42, the Pendigo Lake at the NEC and the West Coast Main Line.
Initial designs for the APM were revealed in 2019, and Schedule 17 Approval for the light rail was granted in 2020. Since then, HS2 has been working in collaboration with the Urban Growth Community (UGC) in Solihull to imbue it with design elements that will support the wider growth plans at the UK Central Hub.
