With days to go before the consultation on Gatwick's proposed second runway closes, the arguments both for and against have been ramping up.

The airport wants to convert its standby runway – known as the Northern runway – into one for routine flights, meaning it could increase its annual passenger capacity from 62 million to 75 million by 2038.

The airport says it would also mean reduced delays, bring new global connections and generate 18,400 extra jobs and £1.5 billion for the local area and region by 2038.
