A burst water main has caused problems for passengers and staff at the UK’s second busiest airport [14 July 2022].

Gatwick Airport is suffering from a water shortage following a burst water main. As a result of the low water pressure caused by the burst, the UK’s second-busiest airport has had no choice but to close many of its toilets.

Reports suggest that, in one of the airport's terminals, only two toilets are operational. Unable to prepare and serve food, many restaurants have also been forced to shut, and staff have instead been handing out bottled water to passengers.

The problem started on Thursday afternoon, and the burst water main could not have come at a worse time – much of the UK is currently experiencing a heatwave, and the demand for water is higher than normal.
