The Minister for Public Works, Public Utilities and Digital Economy, Fidel Grant, appreciated the Dominica Labour Party government led by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit for efficiently delivering their promises to the people of Dominica. The Minister said, “For over 50 years, Dominicans had been hearing promises of an International Airport, but no Government had been able to deliver before now.”
On Monday, March 27, 2023, the Minister took to Facebook to extend his gratitude and appreciation to the government. He highlighted that more than 25 million dollars were paid out to compensate and successfully and comfortably relocate affected residents.
As of Sunday, March 26, 2023, the first instalment of Chinese heavy equipment reached Wesley, and work is underway by the contractors. Furthermore, the Chinese Railway Company are preparing the infrastructure required to facilitate the actual runway and terminal construction.
Work at the international airport is in progress on Eden Estate, reportedly for the site of the location of the cement plant for the supply of concrete for the construction of the Wesley Airport. This site is northeast of the proposed runway, aligned just beyond the excavation shown here. The land is being levelled to provide an extensive flat area for laying out the cement plant.
