UK airports have announced ambitious plans for expansion between now and 2030. Here is a brief rundown of which airports and what they are planning:

Gatwick - 15-yr plan - looking to increase passenger numbers from 46.1 million (2018) to 70 million per year by 2030 through investment in new technologies to improve useage of current runway, and potentially bring the standby runway into routine use.

Luton - 30-yr plan - looking to increase passenger numbers from 16.6 million (2018) to 38 million per year by 2050 - Luton recently saw the opening of its newly upgraded terminal building (Dec 2018) - Work has commenced on £225 million passenger transite system to replace the current shuttle bus services with a rail passenger transite service

Birmingham - 15-yr £500 million investment plan -  looking to increase passenger numbers from 8.6 million (2018) to 18 million per year by 2033 - Draft Master Plan public consultation closed in Jan 2019 with final plan due for publication later this year.

Bristol - 30-yr plan - looking to increase passenger numbers from 8.6 million (2018) to 20 million per year by mid 2040 - planning application has been submitted for developments to increase passagener number to 12 million by 2026.

Newcastle - 15-yr plan - looking to increase passenger numbers from 5 million (2018) to 9.4 million per year by mid 2035 (the airports' centenary year) - development maps includes the construction of a 700-metre runway extention, if needed

Southampton - looking to submit a planning application later this year for a 170-metre extension to the northern end of the runway allowing for aircraft with further flight range to use the airport.

Cardiff - 20-yr plan - looking to increase passenger numbers from 1.5 million (2018) to 3 million per year by 2040 - the key development for the airport is a new terminal building.

Doncaster Sheffield - 17-yr plan - looking to increase passenger numbers from 1.3 million (2018) to 4.7 million per year by mid 2037 - Including major terminal enhancement works
