The Albanian government has launched a tender for the construction of a new 37 million euro ($43.9 million) airport in Saranda, in the southern part of the country, local media reported.

The construction works will be financed through private investment, with Albania providing no financial guarantees or getting involved in the project, Albanian Daily News quoted infrastructure minister Belinda Balluku as saying on Friday.

The land expropriation process will be carried out by the government, Balluku added.

Candidates can submit their offers from August 2 to September 23.
