It is not only the UK (and Europe) that is facing flight cuts.  In the United States the same in happening, but at least prospective passengers are getting an early warning. 

Nearly 35,000 flights are planned to be cut over a number of US airlines.

American Airlines is expected to make the deepest reductions to November schedules.

It is trimming nearly 29,000 flights according to Cirium data which represents an overall reduction of 12.6%.

Delta Air Lines schedule is cut by 4,396 which is about 3%.

Another 1,000 combined flights are being grounded by United Airlines, Frontier and Canada’s WestJet.
