Simple Flying - Lukas Souza
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby took a shot at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in an email to airline employees yesterday. Kirby said, "...the FA quite frankly failed us this weekend," referring to the FAA's decision to cancel numerous flights in the Northeastern United States over the weekend.
Since the weekend, airspace in the Northeast has been chaotic and riddled with delays and cancelations. On Monday, more than 8,000 flights were delayed in the US, on top of more than 2,000 cancelations. Sunday was worse as more than 11,000 flights were delayed and canceled. United Airlines was significantly affected over the last two days, with more than 40% of its flights suffering delays.
As of 15:30 ET [27 June 2023], more than 5,000 flights have been delayed and canceled in the US today. Only time will tell how long these impacts will continue.
