Airport operator, Fraport, today announced that 5.9 million passengers passed through Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in August 2023 – 13% more than in the corresponding month in 2022.
While welcoming the news, Fraport notes that the monthly total is still 15.3% down on pre-pandemic August 2019.
The latest total means that during the school holidays in the German state of Hesse (July 21 to September 3), FRA handled more than 8.6 million passengers and 58,300 aircraft movements.
Cargo volumes in Frankfurt rose again slightly in August 2023. At 156,827 tonnes, cargo throughput (comprising airfreight and airmail) was up 1.2% on the same month in 2022.
