Turkish investor TAV Airports Holding has launched a project to build a new USD 180-million international terminal at Almaty airport. This was reported by the Department of Entrepreneurship and Investments of the city. The Turkish investor received an ‘architectural and planning assignment’ (APZ) for the construction of a new international airport terminal, which will be located on the site of the VIP terminal. Plans call for a terminal with a floor area of 55,000 square meters (592,015 square feet), and a capacity of 6 million annual passengers. The VIP terminal building will be moved to the southwestern part of the airport. Completion of construction work is scheduled for May 2022. 

According to the department, the project will be financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The terms of the agreement on state support are being negotiated between the government of Kazakhstan, Almaty International Airport JSC, EBRD and IFC.

On May 7, 2020, a sale and purchase agreement was signed between Almaty International Airport and the consortium TAV Airports Holding (85 percent of shares), and VPE Capital (15 percent of shares). #1147.33
