Sustainable Skies world summit 2023 — Mythbusting Preconceptions

Thank you for getting involved in the latest edition of Sustainable Skies World Summit, held on 17-18 April 2023 at Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre.

SSWS23 was a historic event that focused on accelerating global progress towards more sustainable aviation and reaching Net Zero goals. It proved to be a roaring success with over 1000 visitors, media, speakers and exhibitors getting involved across the two days.

See some of the highlights below:

Historic SAF Flight

The opening of SSWS23 was marked with a flypast from RAF Voyager "Vespina" powered by a SAF blend after it conducted an air-to-air refuelling sortie supplying SAF blend to other RAF aircraft over the North Sea. This flight marked the launch of a new aviation Net Zero Carbon roadmap for commercial aviation.

Also at the Sustainable Skies World Summit 2023, the UK aviation industry announced higher ambition in its transition to net zero carbon emissions by 2050 with the publication of an updated Net Zero Carbon Road-Map, reflecting advances in sustainable aviation technology made here in the UK.

ADS SME Sustainability challenge grants

To mark day 1 of SSWS23, the ADS Group launched its inaugural ADS Sustainability Challenge, offering a total of £50,000 of grant funding for five ADS SME members. This competition will support the members in their journey to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.

Keynote theatre & accelerator hub

SSWS23 gathered aerospace industry professionals from around the world, including government representatives, technology innovators, members of academia, investors and regulators, who shared their expert knowledge at the Keynote Theatre and Accelerator Hub, stimulating collaboration and promoting the role of the future workforce to deliver meaningful progress.

Sustainable aviation Technology Showcase

The landscape of sustainable aviation technology has greatly expanded since the first edition of SSWS. Whilst the inaugural event focused on goal setting and moving quick wins forward, this second edition showcased modern technology that is driving positive change forward today, featuring companies like Rolls-Royce, NEBOair, ZeroAvia, British Airways, GKN Aerospace, WheelTug and many others.

Aerospace events at SSWS23

SSWS23 also acted as a significant touchpoint for our other Aerospace Events, with visitors keen to chat to the team to discuss upcoming events including FIA2024. The Pioneers of Tomorrow conversation was brought to the fore in the Keynote Theatre thanks to support from The Air League and the Royal Aeronautical Society. Meanwhile, the Accelerator Hub featured AAM and eVOTL companies, pushing forward the agenda as we head towards our next GUAAS event in Singapore later this year.
