ACC sent a legislative alert to members this week when Republican leaders in the U.S. Senate unveiled their $1 trillion COVID-19 relief bill, the HEALS Act. The proposal includes an additional $10 billion in funding for airports to address increased operational costs, debt service, and capital projects. This is in addition to the $10 billion provided under the CARES Act. The Senate bill also includes $208 million in funding for TSA and relief to Customs and Border Protection which has suffered a severe drop in customs fees due to the drop in travelers. Prospects for the bill are uncertain as Republicans are wary of the federal budget deficit and the Senate bill is well under the $3.5 trillion HEROES Act passed by the House.
