A review meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at ‘Sahyadri’ in Mumbai focused on the progress of aviation services and airport development across the state. Minister for State Civil Aviation and Cooperation and Member Of Parliament Murlidhar Mohol, Senior officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), military forces, and other key stakeholders participated in the discussions.
The meeting emphasized the urgent need to expand infrastructure to keep pace with the rapid growth in the aviation sector. Specific timelines and milestones were set for various airport projects, with special attention on the long-awaited Purandar Airport.
Key Updates from the Meeting:
– Purandar Airport: Land acquisition to begin soon, with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) slated for completion by September 2025. The airport is planned to be operational by March 2029.
– Navi Mumbai International Airport: Construction to be completed by March 2025, with domestic services starting the same month and international flights commencing in April 2025.
– Nagpur and Shirdi Airports: Re-carpeting works are to be completed by March 31, 2025.
– Amravati Airport: Night landing facilities to be fast-tracked, with South Asia’s largest Flight Training Organization (FTO) expected to be operational by July 2025.
– Solapur and Kolhapur Airports: Accelerated land acquisition for runway expansion, along with initiation of night landing facilities.
– Jalgaon Airport: Approval given for the construction of a new terminal building.
– Gadchiroli Airport: Land acquisition process initiated for future development.
– Pune International Airport: Runway expansion land acquisition to be completed within six months.
– Water Aerodromes: Surveys for potential sites at Pavana, Gangapur, and Khindsi dams to commence immediately.
– Vadhavan Airport: Early decisions expected on the proposed airport near the international port.
