Passengers are having to queue downstairs due to the construction of the state-of-the-art security hall

Passengers at Birmingham Airport have said it was 'absolute carnage' passing through security checks today (May 15) after waiting two hours to pass through, BirminghamLive reports. Due to the new £40m construction of a new security hall which is expected to be ready in June 2024, the airport said passengers might find themselves queuing downstairs.

A spokesperson from Birmingham Airport told BirminghamLive: "It was another busy Monday morning here at BHX with thousands of customers flying out. Departing customers may well find themselves queueing downstairs.

They added: "This is because we have less space upstairs due the ongoing construction of our £40m new security hall, set to be ready in June 2024. Our customer walking and queuing routes are changing as the project progresses.”
