Regional Government Pushes for Expansion Following Passenger Surge

The Spanish Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has dismissed the proposal for a second runway at the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, stating it "makes no sense." Puente celebrated the abandonment of this idea, stating the airport "currently requires a new terminal, taxiways, and boarding bridges, not an additional runway."

He expressed these views in an interview with Europa Press, countering the demand from the Generalitat Valenciana to the Spanish Government for constructing a second runway at Alicante-Elche Airport.
