Office of National Statistics data released on 24 May 2021 show that from April 2020 - December 2020 visitors to the UK from overseas dropped to -73% and spent -78% less in 2020 than in 2019 due to the pandemic. There were -75% fewer trips aboard by UK residents because of the pandemic. This highlights starkly the impact Covid has had on the sector and why it is vital to have a more meaningful opening up of international travel.
