The aviation industry in North America has showcased resilience and significant growth in 2024, with the busiest airports recording substantial capacity gains year-over-year. According to OAG, departing seat capacity across these hubs reflects the continued recovery of the sector as airports adapt to rising demand and evolving travel preferences.
Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the world’s busiest airport, continues to dominate the North American market with 62,743,665 departing seats, marking a 2% year-over-year increase.
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, the second-busiest in North America, saw 51,516,707 departing seats, reflecting a robust 7% year-over-year increase.
Denver International Airport reported 49,218,244 departing seats in 2024, a 5% increase year-over-year and an impressive 24% growth compared to 2019.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport, with 46,992,360 departing seats, recorded an 8% year-over-year growth. However, its capacity remains 7% below 2019 levels
Los Angeles International Airport recorded 45,509,963 departing seats, a modest 2% increase year-over-year but a notable 12% decline compared to 2019
New York JFK International Airport, with 38,150,327 departing seats, experienced a 1% year-over-year increase, aligning with its pre-pandemic capacity levels
