The Airports Directorate of the Ministry of Public Works carried out the technical opening of the tender to plan the expansion of Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago (AMB) over the coming decades, with new facilities that will allow its capacity to be tripled and strengthen its strategic role as the main air connectivity hub linking the country with the rest of the world.
The minister of Public Works, Jessica López, reported that “it is a great signal for the industry, the interest shown by five engineering and architecture consulting firms in designing the new spaces that AMB will have by the year 2050, among which a third passenger terminal, a third runway, a new cargo terminal, and an internal transport system that will connect with the future extension of Metro line 7 stand out.”
The consulting firms Arcadis Chile, FAIC, IDOM-Vidal, Ingeniería Cuatro-AYESA and Wood Ingeniería y Consultoría Chile submitted their background information to be awarded the tender for the reference preliminary project for the expansion and improvement of AMB.
