With the "Master Plan 2045", Düsseldorf Airport is opening a new chapter and setting the course for the future. The focus is on the vision of a "Destination of Excellence" and the goal of being one of the best airports in Europe in the category up to 30 million passengers. This is not only about economic growth, but also about the sustainable transformation of air traffic and the strengthening of the region as a living and economic area.
One billion euros for sustainable and future-proof infrastructure
One of the measures is the construction of a large-scale photovoltaic system on the northern edge of the airport grounds. With around 40,000 modules, the solar power plant will occupy an area equivalent to about 21 football pitches and generate around 14 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually – enough to supply around 4,000 households for a year.
The construction of a new tank farm with a significantly expanded capacity of nine million liters is also planned. By comparison, the existing warehouse, which will then be demolished, holds 6.4 million liters. The new terminal will be connected to the rail network to enable an environmentally friendly supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF).
In addition, the airport is planning a hydrogen filling station accessible by air and land, which will be usable for air traffic as well as for regional commercial vehicles and public transport.
Passenger comfort and efficiency
Passengers can look forward to a completely new airport experience. The heart of the project is the "Marketplace of the Future", which combines shopping, gastronomy and relaxation on 14,700 square metres.
