The UK’s Civil Aviation Authority’s decision to refuse a spending increase is delaying Heathrow’s third runway project by at least 12 months. This is according to Heathrow Airport. It now expects completion of the third runway between early 2028 and late 2029. Earlier estimates estimated the runway being fully operational by 2028.

According to the Independent, IAG chief, Willie Walsh said the following:

“We need a fresh look at the environmental viability and total cost of expanding Heathrow. The airport has a history of spending recklessly to gold-plate projects and paying guaranteed dividends to shareholders while minimising the environmental significance of expansion.”
