The House of Commons Library published research into unemployment in areas with airports nearby, showing that it is a third higher in “aviation communities” compared with regional averages. For example, the unemployment claimant toll in Hayes and Harlington, West London, which includes Heathrow, climbed from 2,725 in March to 7,750 in October – a 184% surge.
