The House Appropriations Committee this week cleared its Fiscal Year 2021 appropriations bills for the U.S. Department of Transportation and Department of Homeland Security. Under the DOT bill, FAA is funded at $18.1 billion, with the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funded at its authorized level of $3.35 billion, plus an additional $500 million in supplemental airport grants. The DHS spending bill has $8.1 billion for TSA, with $75 million provided for new computed tomography (CT) scanners. The House may bring the DOT bill to the floor by the August summer break, but prospects in the Senate are unclear as they have yet to work on any of their FY 2021 spending bills. A continuing resolution (CR) at the end of the fiscal year in September may be necessary.
