Ministers acting on behalf of the Department of Levelling Up, Housing & Communities and the Department for Transport have approved Luton Airport's plans for a series of infrastructure works to boost its capacity.
The green light represents the go ahead for upgrades to roads, car parks and aircraft parking aprons as well as new buildings and taxiways at the Bedfordshire aviation hub.
London Luton Airport Operations submitted plans in January 2021 for a range of works to boost its capacity from 18M to 19M passengers per annum.
Works to be carried out at the airport will include the dualling of Airport Way, along with associated junction improvements.
A new departures and arrivals pier and walkway are planned, and a pedestrian link building constructed.
An existing taxiway will be extended and a parallel one built, while aircraft parking aprons will be enlarged. Terminal buildings will be altered and extended, as will mid-term and long-term car parks.
