After several delays, notably in 2021, the renovation and expansion project of Kumasi International Airport in Ghana has finally been completed. The airport was inaugurated on Friday, May 10, 2024, by Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He recently christened the platform located in southern Ghana as Agyeman Prempeh I, in honor of the 14th monarch of the Ashanti kingdom, who fought against British colonization.

[The] ceremony marks the completion of Phases II and III of the project, which included extending the runway (from 1,981 to 2,320 meters), installing new ground lighting on the city side, constructing access roads, a parking lot, a new terminal (with a capacity of 800,000 passengers per year), two boarding bridges, renovating and expanding the apron (now capable of accommodating two Boeing 737-800s simultaneously) and the related taxiway, a new fire station, and a new air traffic control tower, among others.

The project was financed by the London branch of Deutsche Bank AG under an export credit agreement, with UK Export Finance (UKEF) providing the credit guarantee. Contracta Construction UK Limited carried out the construction work...
