Calls to offer scheduled passenger flights across Europe from Gloucestershire Airport to be provided by airlines such as EasyJet have been rejected by civic chiefs.

There are plans to sell the Staverton Airport, which is jointly owned by Gloucester City Council and Cheltenham Borough Council.

The airport is run by Gloucestershire Airport Ltd which was established in 1993 and of which both councils have a 50 per cent shareholding.

The company has a 999 year lease on the 300 acre site and manages both the commercial and aviation related activities.
