The design for Poland’s ambitious new PLN 131bn (£25bn) airport and transport interchange has been completed by an architectural consortium led by Foster + Partners and Buro Happold, with the first phase set to open by 2032.
The hub is known as Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK), which translates to “central communication port”. While it has not yet received planning approval, more than 1,000ha of land has been purchased for the airport, which will be located 40km west of Warsaw. Geological excavations commenced on the site last year.
The architectural consortium acting as the Master Architect has successfully completed the design and submitted it to the project promoter CPK company. The design is currently undergoing an acceptance process and is expected to be finalised by the end of the year.
CPK company is targetting a 2026 start for construction and the first phase of the airport is slated to open by the close of 2032.
