The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries has urged the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Chief Minister to expedite the construction of Dhalbhumgarh Airport. Highlighting the prolonged absence of air connectivity for long-distance travellers in Jamshedpur, the Chamber emphasized the need to complete forest and environmental clearances and other requisite processes to commence airport construction.

Paresh Gattani, General Secretary of the Chamber, emphasized that the pending forest clearance papers await the state government’s recommendation. He underscored the potential benefits of the airport for residents, corporate entities like Tata Steel, Tata Motors, FCI, and MSMEs located in East Singhbhum district.

The Chamber’s correspondence also pointed out the limited benefits of Sonari Airport, which currently operates 9-seater commercial aircraft under the UDAN scheme for flights to Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. Due to its short runway, larger aircraft cannot operate effectively. Establishing a dedicated airport in Jamshedpur is expected to alleviate pressure on Ranchi Airport and better serve the region’s air travel needs.
