Bristol Airport has initiated a public consultation on a new masterplan outlining significant developments aimed at expanding its capacity and services by 2040.

The masterplan anticipates an increase in annual capacity from the current allowance of 12M passengers to 15M by around 2036.

Key proposals within the masterplan include:

Terminal Extension: Plans to expand the terminal building, increasing its floor area from 50,000m2 to approximately 130,000m2. It already has permission to reach 70,000m2, but this further extension is intended to enhance passenger experience by improving waiting areas, retail space and facilitating quicker access to aircraft through improved walkways.

Airfield Improvements: Introducing new taxiways, apron extensions and additional aircraft stands, as well as a slight extension of the runway by an estimated 150m, will allow for the operation of longer-range aircraft and more efficient short-haul flights.

Transport Upgrades: The airport is proposing enhancements to the A38 and improvements in public transport connections
