Over the next 5 years, East Africa will see significant airport development totalling at least $14bn across Bishoftu International Airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya, and a new cargo airport in Djibouti. We want to help UK companies win this business

The British Embassy Addis Ababa and BIST are therefore writing to seek Expressions of Interest for an East Africa Airport Roadshow in November enabling UK companies to meet with key stakeholders involved in Airport projects in Nairobi, Addis Ababa and Djibouti and explore commercial opportunities. Expressing interest does not mean you are committed to join but would allow BIST to develop the programme further.

Please register your interest at this link:

The proposed mission includes stops in Nairobi, Addis Abada, and Djibouti. Each stop will include a site visit of the airport or proposed airport site, meetings with local clients and Airport Authorities, and networking opportunities with local contractors. BIST will also provide country briefings from the Embassy for each market. The proposed programme is as follows (A full programme will be shared once we have a clear idea of interest and availability):

  • Sunday 15th November: Travel to Nairobi (either during day or overnight, arriving Monday morning)
  • Monday 16th November: Briefing at British High Commission, site visit, meetings with Kenya Airport Authority. Networking opportunity with local partners, then evening flight to Addis.
  • Tuesday 17th November: Visit to Bishoftu with client, meetings with local partners, and evening reception.
  • Wednesday 18th November: Day visit to Djibouti, including lunch at Ambassador’s Residence, airport visit, and meetings with Airport Authority. Evening return to Addis.
  • Thursday 19th November: Return to London from Addis (overnight flights typically land 6.30/7am)

Please be aware, there has been an escalation in conflict in Tigray and the surrounding areas in Northern Ethiopia. While this is currently not an impediment to the trade mission going ahead, BIST will be monitoring the situation carefully to ensure it is safe to continue.

The US-led Bishoftu International Airport (BIA) Virtual Matchmaking - Virtual lobby remains free for UK businesses to connect with some of the shortlisted EPCs for the Bishoftu International Airport project. When trying to connect with the EPCs, it is worth using the meeting request function rather than the message function as this will send an email to the company, while a message does not and therefore may be missed by other companies.

Please do reach out if you require further support via business.ethiopia@fcdo.gov.uk. BIST look forward to hosting you during the East Africa Airport Roadshow.
