Lithuania's largest and primary airport reached a significant step in its plans to expand its facilities.
Just over a week after the Mayor of Vilnius declared that his city had overtaken Riga as the largest city in the Baltics, Lithuania's airport authority announced that it had secured a contractor to build a new passenger departure terminal for Vilnius Airport. Let's look at the details of this exciting new plan.
On September 14th, Lithuanian Airports announced that it had finalised the public procurement procedure to select a contractor to build a new passenger departure terminal at Vilnius Airport. Lithuanian firm Eikos Statyba was selected as the contractor - beating out four other bidders. Built between Vilnius' existing VIP terminal/conference centre and its old passenger terminal, the total value of the newly-secured contract is €41.5 million, which is roughly the same amount in US dollars at the time of this article's publication. The value of the contract, however, excludes VAT - which if calculated at the standard rate, would add another 21% to the cost of the project.
