Athens International Airport ("Eleftherios Venizelos") is embarking on a major expansion project to accommodate growing passenger numbers. The first phase, budgeted at €650 million, is expected to begin in the coming months and aims to increase the airport's capacity to 33 million passengers by 2028.
This initial phase includes a significant expansion of the existing terminal by approximately 81,000 square meters, along with the construction of additional aircraft parking stands and a new multi-story parking garage. The Athens International Airport (AIA) has opened a tender for the design and construction of the parking facilities, with a combined budget of €188 million. The deadline for bid submissions is Friday, January 10th.
