Miami-Dade commissioners are scheduled to vote on a contract with an architect for a rebuild and expansion of the Central Terminal at Miami International Airport.

A total of eleven proposals were received from architects by an April deadline. A selection committee ranked Carty Architecture of Coral gables the top ranked proposal, and the county is recommending commissioners approve a $39m contract with the firm.

Plans include a new four-level infill building between concourses E and F, connected to both the South and North terminals on levels 2 and 3 post security. Existing areas will be partially demolished to make way for construction.

There will also be a new security checkpoint, new concessions, and a raised roof in an existing area to increase natural light.
