Counting on soaring passenger and cargo growth, Miami International Airport is on a buying spree to acquire nearby land as part of a $14 billion capital expansion.

The coveted land is not to build buildings or add facilities or runways to the 3,300-acre airport. Everything in the plan already has a location in the current airport footprint. But MIA doesn’t have enough space to handle work when expansion construction is in full swing...
