Runway 27 is in a 75-day closure for safety upgrades as crews build a deck bridge to support EMAS, a surface designed to stop an overrunning plane.
Runway 27 is closed for 75 days so crews can finish building a bridge deck at the end of the runway to support an Engineered Material Arresting System, or EMAS.
The bridge is designed to hold a fully-loaded 747 jet, which is about 1 million pounds. EMAS is something that is required by the Federal Aviation Administration...
