London City Airport’s expansion should be paused until “robust, independent real-world assessments” are undertaken to see how local communities will be affected, a London Assembly member has said.

In 2024 ministers greenlit a proposal to increase capacity from 6.5 million to 9 million passengers a year by putting on more weekend and early morning flights, despite opposition from residents in Newham and climate change groups.
