Athens International Airport (AIA) is set to enter a significant expansion phase as it aims to increase its capacity to 40 million passengers annually by 2032.
This ambitious plan comes as the airport experiences strong tourism growth and demand, particularly from international travelers, despite challenges to profitability. In 2025, AIA handled a record 33.99 million passengers, marking a 6.7% year-on-year increase and outpacing the European average.
