Reunion Island Roland Garros Airport’s commitment to decarbonization continues to expand
As part of its ongoing response to global warming, Reunion Island Roland Garros Airport achieved Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation in June 2025. This is one of the highest levels possible in the global program, which assesses airports’ effectiveness in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Of the 636 airports committed to the program worldwide, only 74 have reached this level of accreditation. Reunion Island Roland Garros Airport is the sixth French airport to be certified, and the second in the Africa region.
Having joined the ACA program in 2018, the airport earned Level 2 accreditation in 2019, then Level 3 the following year. By 2023, the airport authority had halved its carbon equivalent emissions from operations and electricity consumption compared with 2014 levels.
With this Level 4+ accreditation, Reunion Island Roland Garros Airport is officially embarking on a new phase of its long-term decarbonization strategy consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement, and is encouraging its partners to adopt a similar vision.
