The government’s decision to grant a development consent order (DCO) to Gatwick Airport to bring its second runway into regular use has drawn polarising views between those who say it is important for the UK economy and those concerned about the environmental impact it will have.

Vinci Airports managing director for United Kingdom Stewart Wingate who is technically Gatwick Airport’s chief executive spoke highly of the planning process the proposals have been through.

Transport Committee chair Ruth Cadbury has spoken candidly of the decision, stating she believes the acceptance of the DCO is a signal the government is not taking the abatement of carbon emissions as seriously as it makes out.

Further support of the planned runway has highlighted how much money it will potentially bring into the UK’s economy.
