Following two years of hard work the new baggage offload and reclaim at Heathrow's T4, including one of the UK's largest baggage handling systems, opened for business on 21 April 2015.  The project, carried out by main contractor VINCI Construction UK and BEUMER Group UK, a leading supplier of automated baggage handling systems, included the demolition of existing plants rooms by three AHUs and associated controls, the strip out of existing retails units and VIP lounges to create space for the baggage reclaim facility.

BEUMER Group UK were contracted by VINCI to design, supply and install the arrivals baggage handling system to provide T4 with the capacity to handle increased baggage levels of pssengers arriving on A380 aircraft.  The installation involved integrating a 193m arrivals carousel with 22 belt conveyors, automatic tag readers and security shutters, plus field equipement, cabling, local motor-control panels and emergency stop units.  High-level controls (SCADA/SAC) were also updated and integrated into the existing control systems in the T4 reclaim hall.
