The fire at the carpark is now "spreading", someone posting from the airport has said.

A carpark at Gatwick Airport has caught fire, according to local reports posted online.

A social media user posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, has said in a post that a "massive" fire is currently ripping through a carpark near the airport's north terminal.

They added the fire is now "spreading", with a picture showing orange flames appearing to tear through multiple vehicles.

The fire is the second at a UK airport in a year, with another having ripped through Luton Airport in October 2023.

Gatwick's fire service has extinguished a fire in the airport's long-stay carpark, a London Gatwick spokesperson has said.

They told Express.co.uk there were no injuries, and that the carpark remains operational.

They said: "Fire services from Gatwick and West Sussex dealt with a vehicle fire in the North Terminal long stay car park overnight.

"The fire was extinguished and there were no injuries. The car park is still open for passengers. This is not being treated as suspicious.
